Damiaokou Police Station tells the story of the old Taoyuan City, demonstrating a charming coexistence of modernity and history.

Taoyuan City Mayor Cheng Wen-Tsan attended the tea party of the Damioakou Police Station restoration project and the opening of ‘Where is the Old Taoyuan City?' special exhibition on the history of the old Taoyuan City in Taoyuan District on December 1, 2020.  Mayor Cheng said that Damiaokou Police Station, located in the center of the old city of Taoyuan, is the only remaining police station built under Japanese rule in Taoyuan and thus has great historical and cultural value. After being upgraded to a special municipality, the Taoyuan City government has completed five projects, including the old Police Station Taoyuan Branch, former warehouse of the TRA Taoyuan Station, Japanese police officer's dormitory, Community Service Center and Damiaokou Police Station, with the three core concepts of "guided tour of the old city, commercial district revitalization and cultural and creative community". The mayor hopes that the history of Taoyuan can be preserved so that people can feel a charming coexistence of modernity and history despite the underground project of the MRT and railway.

Mayor Cheng said that the development area of old Taoyuan City covers the old East, West, South and North gates. Jing Fu Temple is the core of development of the old city. It is one of the oldest temples in Taoyuan. Nearby are the Fude Temple of 15th street, Wenchang Temple and City God Temple (West Temple), all of which are very valuable old buildings with rich history in the old city. We hope that in the future these temples will work together to transform religious celebrations into cultural celebrations and train more guides to show the history of the old Taoyuan City.

Since Mayor Cheng took office, the city government has completed five historic buildings revitalization projects, including Damiaokou Police Station, Taoyuan New Immigrants Cultural Hall, Taoyuan 77 Cultural Streets (former Japanese police officer's dormitory), and Taoyuan District Citizen Center (former Community Service Center). Currently, the city government is planning to transform the warehouse of the farmers' association into a small theater. We hope to create a new cultural landmark by combining the old and modern elements of Taoyuan, so that the city can preserve its history while undergoing urban development.
