Daxi Amuping Water Sports Training Base, set for completion in 2021, is expected to become an important base for water sports.
Taoyuan City Mayor Cheng Wen-Tsan visited Amuping Ecological Park in Daxi District on the morning of August 18 to attend the Amuping Water Sports Training Base Construction Project Groundbreaking Ceremony. Mayor Cheng said the city government is constructing the new base to provide a more complete training space for water sports. The training base has an area of around 0.46 hectares and is near the Amuping Ecological Park and the yacht marina. The city government plans to build a multi-functional boathouse with spaces for boat storage, weightlifting, administration, education, showering and sleeping, and it will also include a launch pier, a car park and other associated facilities. It is expected that after its completion in 2021, it will be an excellent base for training competitive athletes, holding competitions and citizens to exercise leisurely.
Mayor Cheng pointed out that Taoyuan is blessed with rich water activity resources, including the Shimen Reservoir, Amuping Ecological Park, Longzhu Bay, Daxi Riverside Park, Calligraphy Park, Dayuan Huaxing Lake and the weirs on Laojie River and the Nankan River, and has good conditions for developing water based activities. Water sports are very popular in Daxi and Longtan: Amuping is the training venue for the western rowing representative team, while Longzhu Bay is the training venue for the Taoyuan City kayaking representative team. Longtan Large Pond is also the venue for the city's dragon boat races. Baiji Elementary School, Shimen Junior High School, and Daxi High School etc. are also actively developing rowing, kayaking and other water sports. It can be expected that, after its completion, the Amuping Water Sports Training base will be better able to develop canoeing, rowing and other water sports.
