Mayor Cheng Wen-Tsan attended “Press Conference of Taoyuan City's Religious Group Culture Association cancelling pilgrimage activities and large religious carnivals” in Comprehensive Conference Hall on February 26. He indicated that Taoyuan City's Religious Group Culture Association consists of roughly 80 major temples in Taoyuan, and they have reached a consensus with Taoyuan City Government: to protect the health of worshippers and alleviate the burden of medical personnel, large activities like the pilgrimage activity will be cancelled during epidemic prevention, and small activities will be held in a simplified way, hoping Taiwan focuses wholly on the prevention work. Mayor Cheng said that the intention of all religions is to keep everyone safe and sound, so gods will also support this decision. Representatives of temples will talk to their staff and worshippers to make them come to an understanding on the follow-up procedure. If the epidemic situation alleviates, all religious carnivals and cultural activities will resume gradually.
