Fuxing District: Center of Aboriginal Culture

When Liu Ming-chuan visited this place during the Guangxu Regime of the Qing Dynasty and discovered that the Fuxing Plateau was like a wide triangular plate, he named it Jiaoban Mountain. In 1954, it was named Fuxing Township within the jurisdiction of Taoyuan County. On December 25, 2014, it was renamed as Fuxing District of Taoyuan City. Most citizens in the district are Atayal people, and a few of them are Paiwan and Amis people. Currently, the district has a population of about 10,905 and a land area of 350.78 km2. It is covered with tall and steep mountains and luxuriant forests, giving it unique natural scenery that is completely different from the city.

Famous scenic spots include Sanmin Bat Cave, Jiaobanshan Park, Xiaowulai, Luofu, Lala Mountain, Baling, Dongyen Forest Amusement Park and Shihmen Reservoir. This district is surrounded by mountains, and farming has naturally become its major source of income. The peach is the representative specialty of Fuxing District. In addition, green bamboo shoots, tea, mushrooms, and flowers are the major crops grown there. The output of poinsettias reaches 150,000 pots a year and commands 21.5% of the market, and is a typical specialty of the district.

Aboriginal activities in Fuxing are other exciting events. The Atayal people organize two major ceremonies every year: the Sowing Festival is hosted by the joint chief of the tribes, and the Harvest Festival is hosted by those with the greatest harvest. All aboriginal songs, dances, rituals and lifestyles are fully shown in such activities and attract countless visitors every year to experience the unique beauty of aboriginal culture.
In recent years, a business circle plan has been promoted to create a second spring for the tourism industry in the district. In the future, the features of the district will be integrated to turn the district into the home of aboriginal culture for all of Taiwan. These features include peach farms, floral farms, the Atayal Cultural Park, the Luofu Agritourism Park, and settlement renewal.
