Introduction to Taoyuan County Government

Taoyuan County is a part of northwestern Taiwan that borders on the Greater Taipei Region, the hub of Taiwan’s political and economic activities, to the north and Hsinchu, the country’s high-tech capital, to the south. Stretching from the Taiwan Strait to Taoyuan Plateau and then to the Xueshan Mountain Range, Taoyuan boasts variedly attractive tourism resources against three different landforms: the coastal plain, hills/plateau, and mountain. The erstwhile Taoyuan County was known as “peach garden” because of the omnipresent peach blossoms, which is the County flower. The entire Taoyuan County occupies a 1220 km2 area and is divided into 5 cities, 1 urban township and 7 rural townships. Taoyuan County has a population of approximately 2 million and was officially upgraded to a quasi-directly controlled municipality on January 1, 2011.
Compared to the initial 20 departments and 6 bureaus, the upgraded Taoyuan County Government consists of 21 bureaus, 5 departments and 1 committee. Among others, the Hakka Affairs Bureau was established on January 1, 2011 to offer services to Taoyuan’s Hakka population, the largest in the country. Housed in the Hakka Cultural Museum in Longtan Township, the Bureau is in charge of County affairs regarding ethnic Hakka people, while simultaneously preserving and promoting Hakka culture.

The County Government includes the following:
• 13 household registration offices
• 7 land offices
• 13 health centers
• 15 police substations (police corps)
• Animal health inspection center
• Protection office
• Scenic area administration office
• Department of sports
• Administrative committee of Confucius Temple and Martyrs’ Shrine
• Family education center
• Domestic violence and sexual assault prevention center
• Information center
• Arts facilities management center.

To improve the residents’ well-being, the Taoyuan County Government and its 56 secondary agencies vow to build a blissful wonderland under the theme of “love and harmony”.
