"Taoyuan" means "peach blossom garden" in Chinese and Taoyuan County used to be the main source of all peach blossoms in Taiwan. Even though the plant is no longer grown in the county today, Taoyuan has received international attention because of the Shimen Reservoir, the largest reservoir in the Far East, which attacks many visitors. Over 20 million travelers arrive and depart from Taoyuan International Airport every year, making Taoyuan County the gateway to Taiwan. The airport has also given Taoyuan its reputation of being a commercial county.

The multicultural ethnic groups in the county, beautiful natural landscapes, and its reputation as the kingdom of flowers and plants qualify Taoyuan as a 100% scenic destination. The CKS Mausoleum in Cihu, the CCK Mausoleum in Touliao, the Window on China Theme Park, Mt. Jiao-ban, and the Sacred Tree Area in Mt. Daguan are the most famous attractions in the county.
